The
New Zealand Masonry Trades Registration
Board carries out an admission evaluation prior to registering a
mason as having sufficient skills and experience to construct
structural masonry and/or brickwork.
Structural Mason
applicants must:

Submit
evidence of training/experience.

Submit
three separate project audit reports, one completed and signed by a
NZMTRB
Registration Auditor (Blocklaying) and the other two
completed and signed by a Chartered Professional Engineer
or Member of the Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ).

Undergo
a multi-choice examination of their
knowledge of relevant Standards NZS 4210, NZS 4236 and the New
Zealand
Building Code.
Master Bricklayer
applicants must:

Submit
evidence of training/experience.

Submit
three separate project audit reports completed and signed by an independent auditor.
One auditor must be a NZMTRB
Registration Auditor (Bricklaying) and the other two can
be either NZMTRB Registration Auditors (Bricklaying), Trade
Assessors, Buildings Inspectors, Architects/Designers or Engineers.

Undergo an examination of their
knowledge of relevant Standards NZS 4210, NZS 4236 and the New
Zealand
Building Code.
The Board, whose membership is
drawn from nominees from ACENZ, IPENZ, BOINZ, LGNZ, BBFNZ, CCANZ, NZCMA and
NZCBPMA, reviews all the applications and if satisfied awards
"Registration" to the Structural Mason or "Registration" to the
Master Bricklayer.
"Registration" is given to
individuals, not to Companies.
The Mason is encouraged to use the
term "Registered Structural Mason" and/or "Registered Master
Bricklayer".
