Structural Mason applicants must:

  1. Submit evidence of training/experience.

  2. Submit three separate project audit reports, one completed and signed by a NZMTRB Registration Auditor (Blocklaying) and the other two completed and signed by a Chartered Professional Engineer or Member of the Institution of Professional Engineers (IPENZ).

  3. Undergo a multi-choice examination of their knowledge of relevant Standards NZS 4210, NZS 4236 and the New Zealand Building Code.

Master Bricklayer applicants must:

  1. Submit evidence of training/experience.

  2. Submit three separate project audit reports completed and signed by an independent auditor.  One auditor must be a NZMTRB Registration Auditor (Bricklaying) and the other two can be either NZMTRB Registration Auditors (Bricklaying), Trade Assessors, Buildings Inspectors, Architects/Designers or Engineers.

  3. Undergo an examination of their knowledge of relevant Standards NZS 4210, NZS 4236 and the New Zealand Building Code.

The Board, whose membership is drawn from nominees from ACENZ, IPENZ, BOINZ, LGNZ, BBFNZ, CCANZ, NZCMA and NZCBPMA, reviews all the applications and if satisfied awards "Registration" to the Structural Mason or "Registration" to the Master Bricklayer.

"Registration" is given to individuals, not to Companies.

The Mason is encouraged to use the term "Registered Structural Mason" and/or "Registered Master Bricklayer".
